A downloadable game for Windows and macOS

Zurich, late 19th century. The Spanish Broetli train departs. You and a friend are aboard as workers -- but one of you might secretly be a communist saboteur.

Bring the Broetli is a 2-player local co-op / social deduction game played on one shared screen. Think Among Us, but for exactly two players, with actual minigames to play.

HOW IT WORKS

You are two workers on a steam train. To keep it moving, both of you must cooperate:

  • Shovel coal into the furnace to heat the boiler
  • Pour water into the boiler to generate steam
  • Keep the speed in check on steep downhill sections by manning the brakes
  • Bake fresh Broetli so they arrive warm and on time for the Zurich elite

Sounds manageable, until you realise your partner might be working against you.

THE SABOTEUR

One player is secretly assigned the role of communist saboteur. Their goal: stop the train from ever arriving.

A saboteur can:

  • Quietly dump coal and water into the garbage chute instead of the furnace
  • Decouple the rear wagons from the locomotive, forcing the train to a halt
  • Skip the brakes and let the train fly off the rails
  • Bake poisoned Broetli to eliminate the loyal worker
  • Weaken the coupling while casually walking between wagons

THE VOTE

Each player gets one vote per round. Call a vote to accuse your partner.

  • Vote out the saboteur: you win, and an AI companion takes over to help you finish the journey
  • Vote out an innocent worker: the saboteur wins immediately
  • Sometimes there is no saboteur at all -- and a wrong vote still loses you the round
  • There is no chat. No killing animations. Just two people on a screen, both pretending to be helpful.

FEATURES

  • 2-player local co-op / social deduction on one shared keyboard or two Xbox controllers
  • 6 distinct minigames: spin-wheel coal loading, stop-the-bar water filling, pressure-pump braking, tower-stack Broetli baking, taste-testing (at your own risk), and cooperative coupling repair
  • Dynamic steam-train physics: coal and water decay continuously, speed reacts to terrain, and a crash timer fills if you go too fast
  • AI companion fills in after a successful vote-out so the round keeps going
  • Multi-round match structure with per-round scoring and a leaderboard
  • Procedural terrain with flat, uphill, and downhill sections

CONTROLS

Keyboard or Two Xbox controllers also supported (one per player)

Install instructions

The game is a self-contained executable -- nothing else needs to be installed first.

WINDOWS

  1. Download the .zip file and extract it anywhere on your computer.
  2. Open the extracted folder and double-click Gamelab.exe to launch the game.
  3. If Windows SmartScreen shows a warning ("Windows protected your PC"), click "More info" and then "Run anyway". This is expected for unsigned indie games.

MACOS

  1. Download the .zip file and extract it. You will get a Gamelab.app bundle.
  2. Move Gamelab.app to your Applications folder or anywhere you like.
  3. Open & Play

Note: the macOS build requires Apple Silicon (M1 or later).

CONTROLLERS

Xbox controllers are supported plug-and-play on both platforms. One controller per player. A shared keyboard also works if no controllers are available.

MULTIPLAYER

This is a local 2-player game only. Both players play on the same computer, either on one keyboard or with two controllers. No network connection is required to play.

The game optionally connects to an AI companion service after a successful vote. If there is no internet connection, the companion is automatically disabled and the game continues normally without it.
